PCS season usually brings a wide range of emotion for a lot of people.
Saying goodbye to friends, the stress of packing, wondering if you will fit in at your new location. There isn’t much that’s “easy” about it. Between trying to figure out what to do with your pets, finding a rental that’s within your BAH, or the anxiety of making new friends. How is anyone supposed to thrive during a PCS?
Personally, I hate packing. I absolutely hate it. I hate the boxes, I hate the tape, I hate trying to figure out what to do with my furniture to avoid the gashes and scrapes.
I wait too long before getting started and I procrastinate. It causes stress and anxiety, which is just not fun.
It’s kind of like the first day of school, you don’t know what to expect when you get there. Are you going to like your new classmates? Is it going to be hard to transition?
But here’s the weird thing, I LOVED the first day of school. I always looked forward to it for one reason only: my brand new wardrobe. My mom always took me back to school shopping, she purchased me a ton of new clothes, and I wasn’t supposed to wear them until school started up.
The excitement of being able to wear my new clothes always encouraged me to look forward to the new year. It’s a fresh start, it’s an adventure. I always rocked it.
So the secret to rocking your next PCS? Start. Fresh.
I don’t know about you, but I love decorating a new space- I’m already pinning ideas for my sons new room after our next move. I have plans of having a big garage sale and selling everything I possibly can so I can get all new furniture. Why? Because a new place needs a new wardrobe.
I forget all about the boxes and the packing tape. I forget about the bubble wrap, and how I never have enough. Instead, I think of all the awesome ways I can decorate, the new themes and color schemes. It makes everything feel less overwhelming and more exciting.
You might be thinking: How in the world does anyone afford to redecorate their house every time they move?
Furniture rental!!
CORT Furniture Rental is the way to go when you want to totally redesign your rental home for however long your assignment is. You will have furniture on-demand wherever you go and when you are ready to move again, it’s gone! You don’t have to pack it, you don’t have to move it, you don’t have to worry about scratches and dents from carting your furniture from state to state (or even overseas) CORT will take care of everything.
When you rent furniture you are making the PCS process so much easier. Not only are you cutting down the cost of moving (since you will have less to move) but you are also cutting down the stress. Imagine being able to fit everything you own a small moving van or maybe even your car. You pull up to your new home, ready for all the new adventures (and all the new decorating).
At this point you are probably thinking a few things:
That’s awesome but I don’t think I can afford to rent furniture
or maybe…
I would love to do that, but I am so bad at decorating
Okay, first of all, you can totally afford it!! Military packages start at $139 a month and that includes furniture for three rooms! That’s essentially your entire house if you think about it; living room, bedroom, dining room. I don’t know about you, but $139 is significantly less than my car payment!
Besides, you will save so much in moving costs that it makes up for the monthly expense! Not to mention, you won’t have to worry about spending money on a storage space anymore. Some packages even include a TV and kitchen essentials.
Second of all, if you are terrible at decorating then you are in luck because CORT will actually help you design your rooms (it’s even included in the package). All you have to do is answer a few questions and you will be able to completely personalize your package. They have so many different designs and styles that you will definitely be able to find something that matches your personality.
Best of all: it will feel like home.
CORT is by far the best way to go when it comes to furniture rental, but how else can you give your new home a fresh look without spending a ton of money?
- Use contact paper to create accent walls (without having to paint)
- Shelf paper on refrigerator shelves give a unique look and provides an easy way to clean up!
- Peel-and-stick tiles can create a removable backsplash in your kitchen
- Buy chalkboard contact paper cheap online and use it to create wall calendars
- Repurpose old (free) things like windowsills or ladders. Turn windowsills into picture frames and ladders into towel/blanket racks
- Find free or cheap printable art online and buy frames at the dollar store
Get creative and make your space unique! Pretty soon you will be looking forward to your next PCS instead of dreading it.
As for the “first-day-of-school excitement”, I’ll admit it usually faded once I got through my new wardrobe. I guess that’s the beauty of military life. Once the excitement of a new location and a new home fades, it’s time to move again. CORT Furniture Rental will make sure your next home has a fresh new look so the excitement never fades!
