Ah, that wonderful age. When they are too old for the activity gym but aren’t old enough to color (or you know, eat the crayons).
For awhile, just a little bit of water to splash in on the highchair tray was enough to get through cooking dinner, but eventually, even that became boring. So I stumbled upon an idea on Pinterest with food colored shaving cream. It’s a good idea but my kid puts his hands in his mouth a lot so I needed something edible.
So that’s where this idea came from. Warning: this is a messy activity!
First, you will need to gather the ingredients:
Can I just say that I LOVE Yogurt Blends?? It is literally pure genius to make yogurt full of fruits and vegetables for babies/kids. I love that it’s a yummy snack and my kid gets his veggies in! (Save money by buying in bulk –> Click Here)
Next, I stripped my kiddo right down to the diaper. I’m really glad I did too because when he was done, he was covered head to toe and looked like he murdered a smurf. I pretty much didn’t even let him out of the highchair until the tubby was ready.
After he was ready, I got three small containers and chose my food coloring. I separated the yogurt into the containers and mixed up the colors.
Once the colors were the shade that I wanted them to be, I put them in separate spots on the highchair tray and just let him have fun. He loved it!! It kept him busy for awhile, I even got some good pictures! P.S. Don’t mind the pink highchair- it was a hand-me-down 🙂
This was a fun activity, great for sensory play and really kept him busy. Plus it was super easy to make, and safe if he put it in his mouth. I was able to cook dinner in peace while he went to town. Just look at that smile!
