Inside:See exactly what monetization methods I use to create and grow my PCS proof career and make money from home
New year, new beginnings! While this month did show a decrease in income from last month, we are excited about all the growth that will be happening on Moms Don’t Sleep this year.
To start out, we will be working hard to expand our content in three main areas of our site and segmenting our email list accordingly:
- Military life
- Parents (moms)
- Bloggers
These will obviously have overlapping material has a lot of my military affiliated readers are also moms, and some are interested in blogging as well (it is a fantastic way to PCS proof your career)
Imagine working from home and making an income and then getting orders that you are PCSing in like 2 weeks and you can just pack up your laptop and continue working- cool right?? Anyway, before I totally geek out over blogging…
Last month I mentioned that our two big goals were:
- Launching our 30-day free e-course
- Creating content upgrades for all of our most popular posts
I’m happy to report that we were able to make headway with these projects in addition to monetizing mainly through services and direct sales.
The three biggest things that helped me be successful in those projects were:
- The list building academy– the e-course really knocks it out of the park when it comes to teaching you how to create a opt in offer that works and how to put it out there
- Active campaign– I recently switched from Aweber to Active Campaign. The main reason being the price and the analytics of Aweber. However, after I made the switch, I realized how complicated it is to use compared to Active Campaign. Active Campaign is AMAZINGLY easy to use and very affordable. I am super happy so far and the analytics are great.
- Thrive Leads- I love the opt-in options that come with Thrive leads.. the combination of Thrive and active campaign give me all the same benefits of Convertkit (a popular email platform) at a much more affordable price.

So let’s talk about stats!
My numbers for December (last month):
- UVs: 8,825
- Monthly Page views: 41,333
- Pinterest: 756
- Facebook: 245
- Instagram: 1,505
- Total income: $1,169.60
You can read the full income report for December here.
My TOTAL income for the year 2016 (from June-December) = $2,685.92
My numbers for January:
- UVs: 8,955
- Monthly Page views: 40,695
- Pinterest: 889
- Facebook: 284
- Instagram: 1,556
Income breakdown for January:
- Ad network: $14.43
- Affiliate: $47.44
- Direct Sales: $60.00
- Services: $548
- Total income: $669.87
While affiliate sales and direct sales were increased in January, our services dipped a little which of course means the overall income dipped as well. However, this still exceeds the amount I make as a part-time nurse and also exceeds my original goal of making $400 per month. Now that I know that making money blogging is possible, my new goal is to replace my previous full-time nursing income while working from anywhere. (Want to start your own blog? Let me show you how– even if you aren’t computer savvy!)
Why post income reports?
I started posting income reports for motivation. Not only to motivate me but to motivate other bloggers that are just starting out. I started posting income reports to prove to my community that it is possible for a military spouse to be able to make a living wherever they are stationed. Approximately 26% of military spouses face unemployment. It does not have to be that way! You do not have to job hunt at every duty location, you don’t have to stress about not having an income, and you can be productive and successful as a business owner (of a business that you ACTUALLY OWN and STARTED!!)
People are intimidated by the sentence “start your own business” or they think they are totally unqualified. Newsflash- so am I.. in fact, that was the main motivation behind starting to publish income reports before my blog was successful. I want people to see that I started this blog making $34 and now (just 8 months later) we have made a total of $3,355.79. I have a background in nursing- NOT business. I am not a writer (without the free app Grammarly, I’d be lost) and I’m certainly not special, bloggers everywhere are making a living from behind their computer screen (and guess what? A lot of them are stay-at-home-moms like you and me)
I post my income reports to show you that you can do this. Everyones journey will look different. You might see income reports of people making tens of thousands of dollars monthly or you might see income reports of people making a few hundred. Either way, it’s a win- blogging is fun and my job is getting to know and help a community that I love.
Want to take a leap of faith? Let me show you how these 11 EASY steps can change your life like it did mine.
